How is overtime pay calculated?

Hourly Rate×Applicable Overtime Rate×Overtime Hours=Overtime Pay

The applicable overtime rate depends on the type of day the overtime falls on. A higher-premium day (a rest day or holiday) means a higher overtime rate — never lower than an ordinary working day.

Important information

What is overtime?

Overtime is work performed beyond the normal 8 hours a day.

What counts as overtime?

Hours actually worked beyond your normal 8-hour workday, on any day type. This calculator assumes you already know how many overtime hours you worked.

Does overtime pay apply to everyone?

Not automatically — coverage can depend on your employment classification. Managerial employees and certain other categories are generally excluded from overtime pay rules under the Labor Code.

Is overtime different on holidays?

Yes. The type of day — ordinary, rest day, special non-working day, or regular holiday, and whether it coincides with your rest day — changes the applicable overtime multiplier, from 125% up to 338%.

Does this include night differential?

No. Night differential (for hours worked between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM) is a separate premium, calculated independently of overtime.

Does this include deductions?

No. This estimates overtime pay before any statutory or company deductions.

Does this calculate total payroll?

No. This calculates overtime pay only, not your complete payroll.

Frequently asked questions
